Abstract. The art and science of TMJ management.

Much has been said about the TMJ over the past 30 years. Unfortunately, interventions have occured without scientific basis or long term follow-up.
Disc displacement routinely has its basis in one of 5 etiologies:
1) Trauma
2) Microtrauma
3) Growth
4) Autoimmune
5) Tumors
Without accurate diagnosis as to why the meniscus has displaced, outcomes from interventional treatments are never predictable. The purpose of this presentation is to enlighten the practitioner to etiologies, interventions and outcomes in the management of the symptomatic TMJ patient.
